Singing News Obit - Feb 2007 BOONE,
NC(Singing News) - Don Baldwin, founder, original manager and baritone of the
Couriers died February 24 at his home in Florida. He was 75.
Baldwin had been suffering from serious complications from recent surgery
and had been sent home from the hospital several days ago, under hospice
care, as the doctors could do no more for him.
After leaving the Couriers in 1965, he established "Baldwin Sound Productions",
a recording studio facility and the home of Hymntone Records Many of the major
groups recorded there over the years. He also served as an emcee of the National
Quartet Convention in the 1970s. Don was one of the very first inductees into
the Pennsylvania Southern Gospel Music Hall of Fame and was awarded the "Living
Legend" award by the Grand Old Gospel Reunion last year.
